The Holidays
Tet holiday is the biggest and most important holiday of the year, it is similar to Chinese New Year. It is three days long and happens sometime between January 21 and February 19 on the solar calendar and people gather together and celebrate the coming of the New Year. People visiting houses are very important, if a wealthy or happy person visits a house the well have good fortune for the New Year. Also Tet is the beginning of everyone's birthday and the children are given red envelopes that has "Lucky Money". Another holiday is Tet Trung Thu, which is a harvest festival and is the second most important holiday to the Vietnamese. It is on in the eighth lunar month, which is the brightest day of the year and it is specifically a celebration for the children and the bounty of the land's bounty. It's the time for spending time with friends and families, and parents does activities with their children such as cooking moon cakes, moon masks, and creating lanterns with their children.

The engagement is sometimes considered more important than the actual wedding, each family will have representatives who actually ask the fiancée for her hand in marriage from the fiancé. Then the families schedule the date and time of the wedding along with the dowry, which most of the time is based on the fiancé's and fiancée's dates and hours of birth. Seven days before the ceremony, the fiancé's parents get gifts together to give to the fiancée's family, and the ceremony is when the fiancé's family gives gifts to the finance's family. After they are married it is custom to call their each of their in-laws “mom”, “dad”, “grandma”, “grandpa”, etc.

One of Vietnam's traditional music still played today is the Hat Xam which is called the song of the blind artists. A very talented musician Tran Quoc Dinh, the son of the King Tran Thanh Tong and he had brother named Tran Quoc Dinh’s brother, who was very jealous of him, and one day pierced Tran’s
eyes out leaving him blind. The musician then invented a musical instrument to expose his sadness and today Hat Xam is very popular in Vietnam and tells stories of the fate or unhappiness of the poor. Hat Van is an art that combines singing and dancing, it is rooted in religious tradition and its songs praise the gods and country’s heroes.

Another important food is a drink, tea, which is very important in the Vietnamese culture and is consumed every day starting
in the morning and ending in the night, year round. Also serving teas in weddings shows the couples affection towards each other.
