Small villagers is usually the home for most Vietnamese in the countryside. Mostly farmers who's lives revolve around rice and other collective crops. Also farmers would produce paddy rice, coffee, rubber, tea, pepper, soybeans, cashews, sugar cane, peanuts, and bananas.

City Life
Usually noisy and very populous, it is uncommon for a family of four and grandparents to live in a one bedroom apartment. the reason for the big population in small areas is the immigration of farmers from the countryside seeking for a better life. The cities exports computers, TVs, calculators, and other electronics.

Life for Families
Families are essentially patrilineal, but Vietnamese women work alongside men in many jobs and play a major role in raising children and managing family finances. The Vietnamese prefer to work from early morning until early evening, with an extended rest period during the midday heat.

Clothing
In rural areas, both men and women wear trousers and shirts or blouses. On formal occasions and in urban areas Western-style clothing is worn and very common, including skirts and blouses for women. Women still sometimes wear a form of the traditional ao dai, a long, slit tunic worn over pants.

The Vietnamese have always placed great importance on education and because of that the literacy rate is high about 93.4%. Now students are getting training in science and technology and, with the advent of market reforms, on economics and business and several thousand students are sent abroad each year. Also students are now studying in schools in countries such as Japan and USA, but during the time when Vietnam was a part of the Soviet Union students would go to countries of eastern Europe.
